Learn How EOF Counselor Jocelyn Merino Powers Her Possible

July 10, 2024

Jocelyn MerinoMorristown, N.J., July 10, 2024 – Jocelyn Merino has served as an EOF Counselor at Saint Elizabeth University since August 14, 2023. Previously, Jocelyn served as a preschool teacher where she learned to enhance her skills and created a welcoming environment to help enrich student lives.

As a first-generation student and EOF Alumni, Jocelyn always knew she wanted to work with children. She enjoys being the voice for her students and being a form of support for them, providing a sense of community.

“I am proud to give back to my EOF community and serve as an EOF Counselor at Saint Elizabeth University. This opportunity has allowed me to be the voice for minority groups, in addition to providing academic advice and fostering a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable sharing their stories and asking for help,” Jocelyn shares.

Jocelyn holds a strong dedication to tackling the complex issues of social, racial, and economic justice. Her ultimate goal is to acknowledge and support all students, regardless of color, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background.

“My students motivate me; they power my possible. I am a year into my new role here at Saint Elizabeth University and the connections are surreal. My new students have trusted me with their academic grades as well as with their personal lives. I want them to know that they have someone on their side. I want to be able to bring joy to every student that walks through my door if I can. Realistically, that may not be possible, but I’ll be satisfied if I can make a difference in one student’s life,” Jocelyn says.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Jocelyn also has a few hobbies that she enjoys. A fond lover of nature, Jocelyn enjoys watching the sky at any time of the day, watching the sunrise and sunset, as well as the night sky. For some much-needed relaxation, Jocelyn enjoys hitting the beach and listening to the waves crashing against the sand.

As a Fairleigh Dickinson University Graduate, Jocelyn holds a Bachelor’s in Sociology and a minor in Education. She plans to begin her Master’s program this upcoming Fall semester.
