SEU Alum and Convocation Speaker Gives Words of Encouragement to New Students
August 30, 2022
Morristown, N.J., August 30, 2022 -- For our August Alum of the Month, we are spotlighting Jonadad Fequiere, ‘17, this year’s guest speaker at SEU’s opening Convocation. As an immigrant and first generation student, Jonadad understands the need to feel a sense of culture and belonging on college campuses.
While at SEU, Jonadad studied business administration and communication. She shared in her Convocation speech that the experiences she had in college greatly influenced her future.
“I was undecided my first year and had no idea who or what I wanted to be for the rest of my life,” said Jonadad. “My values changed as I learned more about myself and the ways I wanted to contribute to the world and serve others. My time at SEU prepared me to pursue my MBA following graduation and a career in higher education.”
Jonadad began her career in higher education at DeSales University where she also completed her master’s degree. Through her professional and academic careers, she discovered a passion for working with young adults seeking guidance in their education and beyond. One of the key lessons she shared with our students is the importance of asking for help.
“Please understand and accept that this journey is not one you can do alone,” Jonadad emphasized. “You are not a burden, and your strength is not determined by the heaviness you choose to carry by yourselves.”
Currently, Jonadad works in Student Affairs at Villanova University, where she manages undergraduate housing. She also teaches a leadership course for first-year students and organizes training and professional development opportunities for undergraduate and graduate staff.
With classes back in session and the 2022 fall semester underway, Jonadad left our students with uplifting words of wisdom.
“I encourage you to trust your process, while also taking the leaps to build your ecosystem of support and connect with the folks around you,” she shared. “I am infinitely grateful for the care and support of my family, friends, mentors, professors, advisors and supervisors. Find your people and be somebody’s person.”
