Acceptable Use Policy

  • Users must possess a current Saint Elizabeth University ID card to access computers in the general-purpose student computer labs.
  • General-purpose computer labs are available for students and faculty to complete their college-related work. Employees are also able to use the labs for work related activities only. Users are expected to comply with SEU's Computer Lab Policies.
  • Printers are intended for class-related activities. Excessive printing and the use of non-approved paper (especially overhead transparencies) is prohibited.
  • Users are not allowed to add or remove software on computer lab computers. Exceptions for class assignments must be arranged in advance by the class instructor with the Director of Instructional Technology.
  • Users may not alter system software or hardware configurations without authorization. They should not tamper with any software protections or restrictions placed on computer applications or files.
  • SEU is not responsible for the loss of any data due to hardware failure or software viruses. The Help Desk takes precautions to minimize these types of problems; however, unavoidable problems may occur. In addition, lab computers are imaged (or reinstalled) on a regular basis destroying any data residing on the computers. All data should be stored on personal media or on the secure network drives provided to all students, staff and faculty (i.e., U: drive).
  • The Student Tech Assistant is authorized, and empowered by SEU, to refuse Lab use by any individual displaying disruptive behavior, who is not following the policies of the Computer Lab, or who does not possess a valid SEU ID card.
  • The consumption of food or beverages is prohibited in all computer labs.
  • There is a limit of one computer per person.
  • Refrain from loud talking and use audio files with earphones only.
  • All temporary user files should be saved in My Documents on the desktop. These are temporary files and will be deleted regularly from the computer.
  • Do not display on public screens images, sounds, or messages that could create an atmosphere of discomfort or harassment to others.
  • Close all open applications and log off the computer before leaving the Lab.
  • Return chairs to their original places.
  • Gaming is not permitted in the labs.
  • No animals, except guide/service dogs, are allowed in the computer rooms.
  • Children are not permitted to use lab computers.
  • All users must properly log-off their PC before leaving the Lab to prevent access of sensitive information by unauthorized individuals.
