Acceptable Use Policy
Saint Elizabeth University abides by the United States Copyright Law, which lists the following areas of coverage:
- Literary works
- Musical works, including any accompanying words
- Dramatic works, including any accompanying music
- Pantomimes and choreographic works
- Pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works
- Motion pictures and other audiovisual works
- Sound recordings
- Architectural works
The Fair Use doctrine, which is part of the Copyright Law, allows for limited use
of portions of materials by faculty in not-for-profit educational institutions. Audio
and video use in classes is allowed as per the usage limitations specified in the
Copyright Law, Guidelines for Off-air Recording of Broadcast Programs for Educational
Use developed by Congress, and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
The downloading of media (music and video) from the Internet or from other users is
covered under the Copyright Law. If someone has not paid for a piece of media and
does not have the legal right to own a copy of it, the user should not download it
or retain a copy of it on their computer or network file space.
