Student Profile: Adonnis Brock-Murray, '20, Biology
September 10, 2019
Morristown, N.J. (September 10, 2019) – This summer, Adonnis Brock-Murray earned firsthand experience in nephrology, angiology,
urology, obstetrics and several other medical disciplines through the Atlantis Fellowship.
This program, which is designed to enable pre-medicine students to travel internationally
and shadow doctors, took Brock-Murray to Vilnius, Lithuania.
"Anybody can say that they want to be a doctor," says Brock-Murray, who is currently
majoring in biology at Saint Elizabeth University. "But can they really stomach the
reality of it all? This fellowship allowed me to see everything relating to medical
care in a hospital setting entirely unfiltered."
Brock-Murray's time in Lithuania tested her passion for medicine. In fact, after witnessing
several births and being fascinated by the doctor's movements, Brock-Murray knew she
was pursuing the right career.
"I want to become an OB/GYN and deliver babies for a living," explains Brock-Murray.
"I've wanted to be a doctor since I was 9 years old and delivering babies is such
a beautiful experience."
Brock-Murray also hopes that her decision to pursue a career in medicine will inspire
her younger family members. As a child, Brock-Murray always admired her relatives
with advanced degrees and realized it was possible for her to do the same.
"Where I'm from, you don't see too many success stories. If you don't have any role
models in your life, it's easy to give up," says Brock-Murray, a native of Atlantic
City. "I want to make it out instead of becoming a statistic and be that role model."
Luckily, Brock-Murray has been motivated by both her family the supportive SEU professors.
She credits their nurturing guidance with her desire to succeed.
