Gary B. Crosby, Ph.D.

Gary B. Crosby, Ph.D. is the eighth president of Saint Elizabeth University (SEU), assuming leadership on July 1, 2021. As the first African American and first male president in the university’s history, Dr. Crosby brings a bold vision for innovation, student success, and institutional growth.

A recognized leader in higher education, Dr. Crosby has more than 20 years of progressive experience in academic administration, having served in key leadership roles at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU) and Jackson State University. His student-centered and mission-driven approach to leadership has propelled transformative initiatives that enhance academic excellence, strengthen community partnerships, and expand opportunities for historically underserved student populations.

A prolific scholar and thought leader, Dr. Crosby has published and presented extensively on higher education, institutional leadership, and community engagement. His contributions have earned him numerous accolades for his dedication to advancing higher education and fostering inclusive learning environments.

A native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Dr. Crosby holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from The University of Southern Mississippi. He also earned a master’s degree in political science and a doctorate in urban and regional planning from Jackson State University. A lifelong learner and advocate for leadership development, he is a 2019–2020 American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow at Rutgers University–Newark, holds a certificate in Educational Management from Harvard University, and was a 2016 Protégé of the Millennium Leadership Initiative of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).

Dr. Crosby and his wife, Larissia, are proud parents of two daughters, Julia and Elise.
