NJ Public Assistance

WorkFirst NJ (WFNJ)

Work First New Jersey (WFNJ) is a government program designed to assist eligible individuals and families in need by providing financial aid and supportive services. The program aims to:

  • Offer monthly cash assistance to meet basic needs
  • Assist in obtaining child support payments for dependent children
  • Aid in finding employment and achieving self-sufficiency through job training, education, and work activities
  • Provide support with childcare, transportation, and other necessary services
  • Extend additional support for individuals approaching the 60-month limit of cash assistance benefits
  • Facilitate the transition to employment by maintaining benefits during the first month of employment and gradually phasing them out

La Casa De Don Pedro

  • Weatherization Assistance Program  The Weatherization Assistance Program offers measures for energy conservation and home improvements that help renters and homeowners save on energy costs.
  • Housing Counseling & Homeownership Program La Casa de Don Pedro is an agency that is certified by HUD for housing counseling. It is dedicated to providing affordable homeownership opportunities, guiding families through the process, and assisting them in keeping their homes during difficult times.
  • Immigration Services & Integration La Casa de Don Pedro offers immigration services that provide new immigrants with guidance, education, support, and accredited legal assistance for immigration matters. They also assist DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients with application completion and renewal.

Statewide Parent Advocacy Network

The Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN) in New Jersey serves as a comprehensive resource for families. SPAN is dedicated to supporting families in becoming effective advocates and collaborators in enhancing the educational, health, and behavioral well-being of children and adolescents.

Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities provides a wide range of services such as housing, food, disaster relief, and immigration services. Visit their website and reach out to your local chapter for assistance.

City Relief

Visiting the same six locations weekly, they provide meals, essentials, hygiene kits, socks, and prayers. Connect individuals with community partners and navigate agencies & government programs. This can mean anything from assisting with paperwork to attending meetings to advocate on an individual’s behalf. Connect them with resources they need like emergency shelters, job programs, detox or drug rehabilitation, or other available programs.

Provides food assistance programs and connects people to benefits and services in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK)

Provides meals and other services to individuals in need in the Trenton area.

Mercer Street Friends Food Bank

Distributes food and groceries to community partners serving low-income families and individuals in Mercer County.

Norwescap Food Bank

Provides food assistance programs and distributes food to pantries and shelters in Warren, Hunterdon, Sussex, and Morris counties.

The Adolescent Housing Hub is a program managed by the Office of Adolescent Services under the Department of Children and Families. The program is a real-time database designed to assist youth with placement in a transitional or permanent housing program. The mission of the LGBT Rain Foundation (Essex County) is to help adolescents by providing emergency shelter, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing services to address the emergent needs of LGBT individuals experiencing crises leading to homelessness. Through integrated solutions and partnerships, they offer a haven that consists of case management, educational and financial responsibility resources, as well as wrap-around services in substance use mental health counseling, and drug screening. They are dedicated to bringing opportunities to troubled individuals in the greater Newark and surrounding communities.

NJ Comfort Partners

Offers energy-saving and cost-reducing home improvements for low-income households.

Universal Service Fund (USF)

Assists with paying energy bills for low-income households.USF is a program created by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and managed by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to help make energy bills more affordable for low-income customers. If you are eligible, USF can lower the amount you have to pay for natural gas and electricity.

Payment Assistance for Gas and Electric (PAGE) Program

Helps low-to-moderate-income households in New Jersey pay for their utility bills.

NJ Shares

Provides energy and utility bill assistance for households experiencing temporary financial hardship.

Winter Termination Program

Prevents utility shutoff for eligible low-income customers during the winter months.

Lifeline Utility Assistance Program

Offers utility assistance to seniors and people with disabilities to help them pay for electric and natural gas bills.
