Letters of recommendation are important in giving us a view of applicants beyond their "test scores and grades." For Graduate and traditional Undergraduate programs, letters of recommendation are required. Try to pick references who know you well, both as a student and as a person. Please note that letters of recommendation are not required for applicants to our undergraduate Adult Learner program.
Interviews are not required for international students in most of our programs, but are required for the Graduate programs in Counseling Psychology and ACT. If an interview is required, you will be contacted.
Academics
Average class size is 11 students.
Click here for more information on graduate programs.
Please note that due to New Jersey Department of Education regulations for teacher
certification, international students may take only a restricted number of Education
courses, and not a complete undergraduate major in Education. There are, however,
no such restrictions on the study of Education at the graduate level.
Most departments provide the opportunity to do an internship. Visit the Career Services page for more information. See also employment for international students.
The Mathematics Skills Placement test is given to all incoming students, including U.S. students. The test has two sections: Arithmetic and Algebra. The arithmetical portion tests skills such as basic calculations, whole numbers, fractions, percentages, rates, geometry, etc. The algebraic section tests elementary Algebra. Each section has 35 multiple choice questions. The test is administered using a computer. Students with SAT scores above 540 are not required to take the test. Use of a calculator during the test is permitted but not necessary (please bring your own calculator if you want one). Notes and dictionaries are NOT permitted.
Student Life
The Office of Student Engagement sponsors many events for students. We also have a very active Center for Volunteerism and Service-Learning. Also, because the campus is near a train station, students can easily travel to nearby towns, or to New York City.
SEU has the following sports teams: baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, softball,
tennis and volleyball. Visit www.seueagles.com for all the latest SEU sports news, team information and more.
We also have a weight room and many other facilities for recreational athletic activity.
Resident Students
We have over 400 residence halls spaces available, most of them single rooms. Residence halls are assigned to Undergraduate students first, and then, if available to Graduate and Adult Learner students.
To guarantee that you will have a room in the residence halls, you must submit your housing deposit by mid-June.
The Residence Life Survey includes many questions about your personal preferences and habits and it will be sent to you after submitting your housing deposit. These answers are used in assigning you to a particular room and roommate.
If both you and your roommate list each other's names on your Residence Life Survey, Residence Life will try to put you together, but cannot guarantee doing so.
You may ship some of your things ahead by sending them to:

Please allow sufficient time for items to reach the University.
Please plan to arrive no earlier than the first day of orientation. If you intend to stay on campus, please plan to arrive on that date. If you are staying off-campus, please plan to arrive no earlier than 30 days prior to the start of classes.
International students may stay in their dorm rooms throughout the school year, with two exceptions: They must leave their dorm rooms for about 14 days after the end of the fall semester (but do not need to remove their possessions); and must completely vacate the dormitory (except for items left in storage) for about 14 days just prior to the start of the fall semester. There is no extra charge for staying in the dorms during breaks in the regular academic year (i.e., from September to May). Housing from May to August is available at an extra weekly fee.
All dorm residents must have a school meal plan. Commuters are not required to do so.
You are given a meal plan automatically when you request housing on campus
