Wellness canter

Our mission is to support and enhance the psychosocial well-being and development of all students. We provide culturally competent counseling services that foster the mental health of students, nurture their success, and support the campus community.

We offer free and confidential services, such as individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, referrals to community providers, resources, and outreach programs.

Counseling appointments are conducted in person or via telehealth using a secure platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Once you schedule your intake appointment, you will be sent a link to fill out intake forms. Please complete these forms prior to your appointment.

During your first visit, we collaborate to develop a plan that will be most helpful for you. This could be: individual therapy: usually meeting for 5-7 sessions, for 45-50 minutes; or referral for specialized therapy in the community or medication evaluation.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis and thinking about or planning suicide, please come to the Wellness Center (Founders Hall) during office hours, or call our office (973) 290-4134. You may also call 911 or go to your closest emergency room.

In case of psychiatric emergency after hours and you live on campus, please contact the 24 hour Residence Life duty phone: (973) 985-7394. Otherwise, call 911 or go to your closest emergency room.

Crisis Hotlines:

No! All your personal information is kept private and secure if you are over 18. The only circumstance where a counselor would share your information would be if you are in imminent harm to yourself, others, or property.

No! All counseling services are 100% free. This includes in-person and virtual services on the Uwill program. We do not require insurance or bill insurance to see you.

Yes, we typically recommend a minimum of 5 sessions to see progress toward your goals, and a limit of 12 sessions per semester. If you believe you will need more sessions than what we offer in a semester, we recommend you use the Uwill virtual program, or speak to a SEU counselor to find referrals for off-campus therapists.

Our counselors offer free 10 minute consultations to determine if counseling is a good fit for you. We also have a free mental health assessment on our website to help you determine if your mental health is of concern.
