Master of Arts (M.A.) in Counseling Psychology Mission Statement

The master’s program in counseling psychology has been designed to prepare professionals to meet the challenges involved in providing counseling services to individuals and/or groups and to be effective facilitators of change and growth. The program focuses on social justice and cultural diversity.  The curriculum encourages students to consider the helping relationship in light of current trends and challenges and will develop in the student the motivation to meet these challenges as a leader in the mental health and school counseling professions. By offering a strong required curriculum in counseling psychology with elective courses in a variety of specialized areas, this program will serve as a comprehensive knowledge base for professional responsibilities and concerns. Students will acquire a solid foundation in the counseling profession by taking the consideration of a multicultural perspective and an ethical approach that can be applied in theory and practice.
