Counseling Psychology
30 credits
This 30-credit foundation program is the main track in the degree. It is designed
for students who are planning to apply to doctoral programs or who want to utilize
psychology for personal enrichment, to improve their professional life, and/or to
realize future career potential.
This track can be built upon for those who seek professional licensure or certifications.
School Counseling
18 additional credits
School Counseling is a program designed to prepare professionals with an interest
in working with children in educational settings. Building on the core counseling
curriculum, this specialty adds courses designed to prepare graduates with the skills
needed to assess and counsel children regarding personal, social, educational and
vocational concerns and to develop cooperative relationships with community agencies
in assisting children and families.
This program is endorsed by the N.J. Department of Education for school counseling
certification upon graduation.
Mental Health Counseling
30 additional credits
The Mental Health Counseling program is designed to prepare professionals for work
in a variety of mental health or human services settings, including mental health
counseling facilities, training and vocational rehabilitation centers, child welfare
and family counseling agencies, institutions for the aging, and other social and community
organizations, as well as private practice.
This 60-credit program fulfills the educational requirements for becoming a Licensed
Professional Counselor in New Jersey.
Visiting Student Option
Qualified applicants may be accepted as visiting students to complete coursework required for certification or licensure.
