Integrating Career Services into your Curriculum

Integrating career-focused content into the classroom helps students make clear connections between their academic studies and future career paths.

Faculty are encouraged to collaborate with Career Services to explore opportunities for incorporating career-related assignments, including graded work, extra credit options, or professional development activities. Our team can support you in designing meaningful, course-embedded assignments that strengthen students’ career readiness and engagement with their field of study.

Examples:

  • Resume Assignments - Incorporate a resume-focused assignment into your course. Options may include requiring students to achieve a designated resume score, complete a resume review with the Career Center, attend a resume lab or workshop, submit a resume through Handshake, or design a customized activity aligned with your course learning outcomes.
  • Interview Preparation - Integrate interview skill-building into your curriculum through mock interviews or elevator pitch assignments designed to help students practice and strengthen their professional communication.
  • Job & Internship Search - Leverage Handshake to engage students in hands-on job search activities, including identifying relevant opportunities, conducting employer research, and learning how to effectively communicate with recruiters.
  • Career Exploration - Embed the PathwayU career assessment platform into your course to support student exploration of strengths, interests, values, and workplace preferences. Students can use the platform to explore majors and potential career paths through guided self-assessment and research tools.
  • Career Fair or Event - All Career Services events are posted on Handshake. Faculty are encouraged to integrate these experiences into coursework, including Career Fairs, networking events, and industry-specific sessions. Students can register through Handshake, and attendance verification can be provided upon request.
